Do I have to have a dog to participate?
No. You may participate in either event without having to bring along a dog.
Can my dog run with me in the 8K?
Yes. Please understand your dogs limitations. This is just under 5 miles and we do not want you to run beyond your dog's abilities. The 8K is a run event but if your dog needs a break, please slow down! There will be multiple water stops along the way. If your dog is not used to this distance, please sign up for the 5K9 instead.
Must my dog be leashed?
Yes, at all times. For the safety of your dog and others, we highly recommend not using a retractable leash, but rather a 4’ or 6’ static leash.
Is the event chip-timed?
Yes, both of the running events will be chip-timed by Wayzata Results and results will be available online following the race.
Am I responsible for picking up any messes left by my dog?
Yes, you ARE responsible to pick up after your dog on race day.
So dogs are allowed running or walking?
Yes. Dogs can be walking, running, carried, rolled in a wagon, whatever works! Just know that in order to be eligible for fastest human/dog prizes, your dog must run/walk the entire distance and cannot be carried. Please train responsibly and run only within the ability of your dog! We want all our human and canine participants to be safe and have fun!
Are strollers allowed?
Yes, strollers are allowed, we just ask that you please line up near the back of the pack at the start line as to not impede those that will be running/racing in the event without a stroller.
Can my children participate with me?
Children are welcome to participate along side you in the 5K for free. But if they want to receive the participant swag and race bib, they must also be a registered, paid participant.
What happens if there is bad weather?
The primary goal of the Fast and the Furry weather policy is to ensure a safe event for everyone. Therefore, the race staff will make decisions about the race cancellations/modifications based on the safety of all that are involved - this includes the participants, the volunteers, the spectators and the host communities.
Specifically, the race staff reserves the right to cancel, delay or to modify the race if deemed necessary to protect the participants, the volunteers, the spectators or the host community. These conditions will be recognized as unforeseeable acts. Since the staging of the race results in substantial up-front expenses regardless of whether or not the race is completed, cancellation or modification of the race will not result in the refunding of race entry fees or future race credits.
A follow up event will be created to allow all participants the opportunity to pick-up their race shirts and any other fundraising awards they have earned.
Severe weather conditions include:
• Thunderstorms or lightning
• Extreme heat & humidity
• High winds
• Extreme cold temperature
• Heavy rain, sleet or snow
If severe weather conditions exist prior to the event, information will be posted on the Home page of the Fast and the Furry website.
